As part of the 20th edition of the Nuit blanche à Montréal, PHI returns with its bubbling creativity to offer a series of immersive exhibitions, musical and sound performances throughout the PHI Centre with an event entitled 10 + 10, in a nod to the 10-year anniversary of the Nuit blanche and the Centre's 10-year anniversary in 2022.

PHI Event Centre Nuitblanche2023 Ivy Boxall

Ivy Boxall
at 3 AM

Ivy Boxall is a musical project created by Christopher Edmondson which breaks down and crosses genre boundaries, with pieces ranging from contemporary classical to jazz to free improvisation to folk music. Ivy Boxall integrates performances with improvisation and electronic production elements. The show will feature Christopher on vocals, woodwinds and synthesizers, Eliana Zimmerman on cello, Pompey on bass and Kyle Hutchins on drums and electronics.

N10.as features live music from: Good Sine ensemble featuring IRL, teotwawki, No Cosmos and Holobody at 4 AM

A rotating cast of skilled musicians come together to play drone, ambient, and noise, for anywhere from three to five hours of unbroken waves, from a mixed bag of digital, analog, acoustic, and embodied sources. Drawing from a wider spectrum of skilled performers, for Nuit blanche 2023 the live drone ensemble Good Sine will consist of teotwawki, IRL, No Cosmos and Holobody improvising cozy ambient into the early hours of the morning.

Performances by Eric Cheung

Eric Cheung is a Vancouver-based street dance/contemporary artist who explores different mediums to further expand the boundaries of street dance in film, theatre, new media, fashion, virtual reality (VR), and interactive digital experiences. Creative projects include E_GO, I(n)finite, Re:1974, iye, wave, ALT, EOM and iyeism.

Artistic installation by June Barry

The work of emerging artist June Barry situates itself between the exploration of light, volume and the intricacies of reflective bodies. She explores the meaning of violence, reconstruction and history. Initially working in video and light installation, she has been employing glass as a medium for the last few years. Living in Montreal, Canada she has participated in group shows most recently sponsored by Joe Battat as well as being the highlight artist of Mural Festival 2021.

Mollygum

Mollygum is a home cook by day with “Have You Eaten?” and a DJ by night. When she arrived in Montreal from Kunming, China, she brought her love for electronic music and authentic Chinese cuisine with her to share her beloved culture with those around her. Whether she’s cooking traditional meals, or serving some of her hype tunes, Mollygum is always dishing out something new. With huge plans in her sight, Mollygum is looking to close the cultural gap between Canada and China the best way she knows how, with delicious food and lively beats.

Mugzy & Maam

The two aliens Mugzy and Maam crashed in Montréal in their DIY spacecraft, in a desperate attempt to escape their home planet. After discovering a wonderful world of freaks, they made it their purpose to produce music, pursue happiness and warn humans about the dangers of losing their community. Brainchild of The Fitness, Lou Roots and GabaGhoul, The Mugzy & Maam Show is a hybrid theatrical extravaganza featuring the titular alien puppets made to look like they’re triggering the various drum machines and synths.

PHI Event Centre Nuitblanche2023 Rick Actual Objects

Rick Farin & Actual Objects Live A/V

Rick Farin is a director and musician who, along with his partner Claire Farin, founded the creative studio Actual Objects, working between live action, CG, A.I., and VFX to create radical new narratives about the future for artists and musicians. Rick & Claire have been behind forward-thinking and avant-garde work for artists such as Yves Tumor, Eartheater, Bad Bunny, Marine Serre, MoMA, Charli XCX, Joji, Hood By Air, Caroline Polachek, VTSS, Sega Bodega, Nike, and A.G. Cook, to name a few. Rick & Claire were both recently featured on the Dazed 100, and have recently premiered their first gallery installation Vicky in collaboration with Case Miller at 180 the Strand in London.

About Raphë
Raphë (pronounced ra-fi; b. 1991 in Montreal) is an undisciplined queer artist working primarily with performance, plasticity and video. Raphë presents transformative and deformative acts using drag codes to construct alter personas. In long durational format, Raphë presents their performances in abandoned wastelands and environments that they consider hostile.
