The Plateaux of Mirror is an evening of sonic and musical performances organized in conjunction with the exhibition Rirkrit Tiravanija: JOUEZ/PLAY, as part of Nuit blanche à Montréal’s 21st edition.

People seeking out a moment of rest and introspection are invited to discover ambient and drone performances presented continuously in Rirkrit Tiravanija’s artwork untitled 1996 (rehearsal studio no. 6). This installation recreates a rehearsal room where Tiravanija and his friends would meet up to play music.

For the occasion, the gallery that hosts the artwork will become a cocoon where the audience can drift off and nap. Sonic landscapes, snacks, and herbal tea will be provided. We invite you to bring pillows, blankets, and any comfy accessories you like.

Vivian Li is a Tiohtià:ke/Montréal-based multidisciplinary sound artist and composer. She is currently studying digital music at Université de Montréal. Her practice combines the use of analog synthesizers, sound recordings, and audio programming through performance, sound design, and improvisation. Stemming from an ongoing fascination and exploration with sounds surrounding our daily reality and their therapeutic properties, her works combine the use of field recordings and tonal sounds, evoking a sense of nostalgia, melancholia, and a touch of dreaminess.

Through sonic textures and pitch-based sounds, she seeks to create immersive and oneiric environments that promote softness, intimacy, and duration, inviting listeners to slow down, listen actively, and seek rest collectively as an act of entertainment. Since 2021, she has hosted a monthly radio show called Lo Signal on Montréal community radio station CKUT 90.3 FM. This two-hour slot serves as a sonic playground, where she plays her ambient scraps, field recordings, drones, sound experiments, and audio diary.

Tancredifazzino bio

Tancredi Fazzino

Tancredi Fazzino is a composer and ambient music producer based in Montréal, whose work transcends the boundaries between electronic and classical practices to create unique and evocative soundscapes. Infused with revelation, relaxation, melancholy, and euphoria, his music is a sensory experience that goes beyond linguistic barriers.

Based in Montréal since 2012 to pursue his university studies, Tancredi has delved deeper into his artistic interests and worked alongside sound engineers, instrumentalists, composers, and renowned artists on various projects in the fields of cinema, television, and branded content.

In late 2023, Tancredi released his debut album, Fire Within, experimenting with hybrid tracks that blend acoustic and electronic sounds. He collaborated with three artists to create a visual album that follows the narrative thread of the music.

Totalement Sublime also composed the music for the immersive exhibition SWEET FOLIE at Oasis Immersion in collaboration with the studio Colegram and Ilyaa Ghafouri.
Cereus bio

CEREUS

Dr. Juliana España Keller Ph.D. (b. 1958) is a Canadian/Swiss/British sound and performance artist engaged in radical entanglements with modular synthesis in sound art through speculative research. Juliana is interested in fluctuating sites with sensing subjects and tactile experimentation within participatory practices. In her feminist new materialist practice, she uses simple electronic processes to observe different materialities of sound. She places electronic components which include sensory stimuli in different situations of intra-action with the body. She experiments with organic materials, kitchen tools and appliances, and environmental stimuli. From these collisions, synthesized sounds emerge to create collaborative narrations or sonic recipes and observations that she observes as radical entanglements in the natural world. Juliana lives and works in Alhaurín el Grande, Andalucía, Spain, and is a Studio Arts Professor at Concordia University in Montréal, Québec, Canada. She also directs the International Creative Arts Residency, BAJO EL OLIVO in Malaga, Spain.
