A Common Imagination: Nursery Rhyme Library

  • Article

By  PHI

It is often difficult to establish the origin of the nursery rhymes we learned when we were children. How did they come down to us, and what do they say about us? Beyond these forms, how are we to gauge the political dimensions of these songs?

These questions are central to the creative workshop A Common Imagination. For this workshop, our Education room will host an installation by Montreal artist Michaëlle Sergile. Made up of textiles, texts and videos, this work will be at the heart of the creative workshop and will change with your contributions throughout the exhibition.

Thus, we invite you to participate in establishing a library of nursery rhymes by contributing the words to a song of your choice online. You can send us their lyrics in the format you see fit (image or text) at [email protected]. Your nursery rhymes will be compiled and added punctually on this page, and will become the principal material of the workshop’s textile work.

Thank you for your contribution!
