Composition, a creation by Vincent Morisset, Caroline Robert, Édouard Lanctôt-Benoit and Vlooper, is a score that took shape on the blank page of an exploratory residency with PHI Studio. In Composition, a simple wooden cube becomes the fundamental unit: it generates rhythm, triggers movement, awakens dormant forces… and sparks the imagination. By manipulating these cubes on the table, Composition transforms into a universe, a sculpture, an instrument, and a collective choreography.

Composition determines the very nature of things — whether it’s an atom, a human being, or a musical work.
It is also the result of an action, a present moment shaped by the transformation of the past.
The cubes are the essence of the piece. They are the medium through which the audience connects with the work. By manipulating them, visitors immerse themselves in the experience.
“Gathering around a table to create, destroy, and rebuild with wooden cubes feels like a kind of ritual. It brings us back to childhood. There’s something deeply satisfying and magical in that tangible interaction. The way the cubes are arranged on the table transforms the visual compositions we see. The cubes become characters, landscapes. They are what we want them to be.
Composition becomes what you imagine. It might remind someone of a musical instrument, a beatmaking software, or a musical score through its sound. The scenography evokes a miniature model or theatre.
It is also an animated film, a choreographic and sculptural work. Our hands manipulate the cubes, and they dance in a ballet with the piece that comes alive through their movement.”
