A creative workshop designed by artist Tania Lara in collaboration with PHI’s education team.
Terrains de jeux/Maps at Play is offered in conjunction with the exhibitions Shadow Play by Lap-See Lam and Bingo by Nico Williams, which are on view at PHI from April 25 to September 14, 2025.
Workshop participants are submerged and reunited in an immersive and dreamlike environment that recalls the Saint Lawrence River, where they will engage in an autogeographical exercise. This method, which is the artist's own, explores the ways in which our bodies and identities are rooted in territory, bound and shaped by the encounters and places that inhabit us.
Workshop participants will be invited to create a set of cards on semi-transparent Mylar paper, and to draw three places that are precious to them. After sharing their creations, each participant can play with the arrangement of the cards to bring out new territories of varying opacity. Once superimposed, the cards will be connected by a coloured thread to evoke the multiple links that exist between these places that define us. When they are revealed, these links become the anchors for the emergence of new collective geographies.
