An exhibition at the intersection of music, art, pop, media and technology in relation to the multifaceted techno scene, genres and political projects stemming from the subcultures of the 1980s to today and traces the processes of cultural and economic appropriation.

THE EXHIBITION
TECHNO WORLDS is a Goethe-Institut exhibition on view in museums and other exhibition venues internationally, presented in Montreal at the Goethe-Institut, PHI Centre and Society for Arts and Technology.
The Goethe-Institut has been promoting the German language and contemporary culture for 60 years through strong international cultural collaborations. The SAT is a cultural hub dedicated to digital culture and has been promoting collective learning for 25 years. The PHI Centre is a multidisciplinary institution where contemporary art and new technologies meet since 10 years.
A new iteration of the exhibition, over 20 international artists, musicians and filmmakers blur the boundaries between art and music. TECHNO WORLDS includes photo, video and installation works by DeForrest Brown, Jr., Jaqueline Caux, Tony Cokes, Chicks on Speed, Zuzanna Czebatul, Kerstin Greiner, AbuQuadim Haqq, Rangoato Hlasane, Ryõji Ikeda, Maryam Jafri, Romuald Karmakar, Robert Lippok, Henrike Naumann and Bastian Hagedorn, Carsten Nicolai, Vinca Petersen, Daniel Pflumm, Lisa Rovner, Sarah Schönfeld, Jeremy Shaw as well as Tobias Zielony.

As a global phenomenon, techno has not only shaped the history of music, but has also had a significant influence on culture. The impulses of techno have an impact on the various fields of art, pop culture, media consumption and technology.
Techno is also an attitude towards life, which reflects particular social, economic and environmental structures.
The exhibition TECHNO WORLDS, which is touring the world, does not aim to indulge in nostalgia, but to depict visions of the future of a lifestyle culture whose adaptability and complexity have remained unique.

PART 2 AT THE GOETHE-INSTITUT

AN EXHIBITION IN THE AFTERNOON AND FROM SUNSET TO MIDNIGHT
Monday: 3 pm to 6 pm
Tuesday to Saturday: 3 pm to 8 pm
The documents, objects, videos and film programs on display at the Goethe-Institut approach the techno phenomenon from the perspective of cultural and musical history, feminism and Afro-futurism.
Original fashion from the 90's, magazines, fanzines and video installations will be on display.
Works on display, window projections every day from sunset to midnight, and film screenings every Friday and Saturday night for the duration of the exhibition.

RAVE CULTURE IN THE EVENING
Tuesday to Saturday: 5 pm to 10 pm
The Society for Arts and Technology invites you to dive into the underground rave scene by taking you to the confines of its basement.
Since the 1980s, the rave scene has acted as a liberating entity for marginalized communities. Playing on the interstices between documentation and interpretation, TECHNO WORLDS offers an alternative perspective on the hidden face of these gatherings. Through a series of photographic, video and luminous installations, the exhibition reveals a subversive militancy where liberation, self-discovery and the reclamation of physical, cultural and political spaces intersect.
