Old words create new worlds.
Centring nêhiyawêwin (Plains Cree language) as a generative transmission for far into the future generations, this dream song crosses listening thresholds to highlight trans*dimensional kinship relations with beyond human relatives. A mirror is sung between earth and sky, reflecting the gifts both piyêsiwak (thunderbirds) and 2Spirit kin embody as guardians between realms. We call in prophecy and the vital importance of nipiy (water) in this future realm, layering source recordings of nipiy with têwêhikan (drum), sisikwan (rattle), and voice. piyêsiwak wâhkôhtowin invites us inside the dream lodge to remember piyêsiwak and their great migration to skyworld. piyêsiwak wâhkôhtowin is a prayer, singing open sovereign sites of futurity which animate the flux and fluidity of existence.

Using the compositions from FOREVER MEDITATIONS as a starting point, Dean will guide participants through different compositional techniques developed to reach deep emotional levels. He will demonstrate how he uses trance-like states, meditative aspects of introspective music in modern electronic, ambient and neo-classical music, and recent research in the field of psychology to amplify these effects. In this interactive session, participants will reflect and exchange about their own emotional and physical responses to Dean’s demonstrations.
Meanwhile, FOREVER MEDITATIONS can be experienced downstairs in Habitat Sonore, PHI Centre’s new immersive listening space, to explore further the artist’s approach to composing music for surround sound spaces.

In a previous lifetime, Ramya was an Engineer. In 1996, when a Zen retreat shattered her belief system, she left her old skin behind and embarked on an ongoing inner and outer journey around the world. Unlearning and unwinding as she explored the visible and invisible dimensions of human consciousness. For more than 20 years, she has been leading workshops exploring altered states of consciousness, working with themes around death, meditation, Zen and beyond, all in service of awareness and presence. Her work is an invitation to come back home to ourselves, to remember who we are and have a direct experience of our soul.
