Konesans (2025) by Sika Valmé
Through a spiraled and sensory composition, Konesans calls upon the invisible world through textured serenades and universal markers: rhythms, silences, contrasts, onomatopoeia, chants, sighs, distant voices, vibrations, and natural elements. The piece nurtures connection to a form of knowledge that is both ancient and intuitive, rooted primarily in Haitian Creole lived experience, and nourished by broader Creole heritages. This refined and original work emerges from the soundscpace of Sika’s latest EP Erosion Eksperyans, which bridges traditional Haitian rhythms with contemporary ambient, and electronic dynamics.
Konesans is an offering to Haitian and Creole diasporas around the world - a space for reconciliation and self-love as a path forward. Conceived for audiences of all ages, the work also speaks to anyone seeking to disconnect from the tangible in order to listen more deeply, settle into themselves, and discover in new ways.
