Immerse yourself in a gentle escape with our program of Dolby Atmos sound works by Jessica Moss.
Unfolding is Jessica Moss’s most meditative and plaintive solo album. Continuing to draw from her distinctive amalgam of influences—post-classical, drone, minimalism, industrial/metal, power electronics, Klezmer and other folkways—these longform compositions are suffused with a spirit of searching and summoning, unfolding in a prevailing atmosphere of incantation, sadness, and mournful restraint.
Layers of melodic and textural violin, electroacoustic processing, field recordings, occasional voice, chimes and bells, conjure devastatingly emotive requiems of ambient dynamism. The album includes guest percussion on centrepiece track “One, Now” from The Necks drummer Tony Buck. Unfolding was co-produced with Radwan Ghazi Moumneh (Jerusalem In My Heart).

Jessica Moss has been a fixture of Montréal’s experimental music landscape since the early 2000s, as a member of agit-punk band Thee Silver Mt. Zion and co-founder of avant-Klezmer group Black Ox Orkestar, alongside countless collaborations in performance and on recordings with the likes of Feist, Vic Chesnutt, Patti Smith, William Basinksi, Carla Bozulich, Jim White, BIG|BRAVE, and GAS. Her focus on solo work over the past decade has yielded five albums on hometown label Constellation, with an electroacoustic palette and compositional approach shaped by durational live performance, real-time signal processing, semi-improvisation, and a deep commitment to the ritualistic space of shared listening and experience. Most recently, as a core member of the Montréal chapter of Musicians For Palestine, she co-organized and played several benefit shows, and released the solo album For UNRWA in spring 2024 (garnering over 800 supporters and raising thousands of dollars).
Habitat Sonore is an intimate listening space designed to accommodate up to 10 people. This small capacity enhances total immersion into the sound world of artists from here and elsewhere. The experience unfolds in near darkness, which helps to emphasize the sound. We invite you to settle in comfortably, let your mind wander, close your eyes if you wish, and be carried away by a unique and captivating auditory journey.
