Presented in partnership with Festival Quartiers Danses
In the spirit of making art and contemporary dance more accessible, this guided dance tour is co-led by a dance performer and mediator from Festival Quartiers Danses and an educator from PHI, and is open to all audiences. This group tour invites participants to engage with the artworks through bodily movement, complementing spoken dialogue and intellectual reflection. The PHI educator will provide context for the artworks and lead the discussion portion, while the dance performer from Festival Quartiers Danses will guide participants in responding to the works through movement.
The tour will take place exclusively within the Lap-See Lam: Shadow Play exhibition.
No dance experience is required. This activity is open to everyone.
The event will be held in French.
Hélène Remoué
Hélène Remoué is a performer, choreographer, and dance teacher based in Montréal, Tio’ti:ake. She began dancing at a young age, exploring a variety of styles before specializing in contemporary dance at the Conservatory of Bordeaux and then in Paris in 2009. In 2011, she moved across the Atlantic to continue her training at the École de Danse Contemporaine de Montréal (EDCM), where she graduated in 2014. Soon after, she developed a strong interest in creation, leading to works such as It Will Take Women, Collision, Loch Ness, and Sans rien forcer—a standout at the ZH Festival (2019), presented at Tangente in 2022 and later reworked as a duet for the in situ context of Festival Quartiers Danses (2022) and Festival RU with Odace événements (2024). In her creative practice, Hélène explores bodily experiences that stretch the mind toward vertigo and extravagance. She emphasizes the body’s technical potential to craft gestures that are both visually sensual and explosive. Deeply committed to teaching, she shares her expertise at Montréal’s top performing arts schools—École de Danse Contemporaine de Montréal, École Supérieure du Ballet du Québec, and the National Circus School—where she fosters a dual approach to learning that is both visionary and human-centered.
Since 2001, Festival Quartiers Danses (FQD) has been dedicated to democratizing contemporary dance in all its forms and hybridities by making it more accessible to a wide range of audiences, in both traditional and unconventional spaces. FQD presents performances by primarily local artists, as well as national and international ones. The Festival takes a multidisciplinary approach to creative dance by presenting shows, performances, installations, films, exhibitions, artist talks, roundtables, and cultural mediation workshops.
Alongside its annual editions, FQD has developed a cultural mediation program since 2013, in line with its mission to make dance accessible to the greatest number of people. Through close collaborations with a wide range of community and cultural partners across Montréal, FQD offers a year-round, inclusive, and dynamic array of dance activities designed to engage audiences who are often underserved by traditional cultural offerings.

Here, you will find an introduction to our team, an overview of our spring/summer exhibitions, and the themes they explore. The toolkit includes creative activities inspired by the exhibitions, designed for use in the classroom or at home.
