About Rachel Echenberg’s Practice
Rachel Echenberg’s visual art practice is based in performance, photo and video. In recent years, she has been exploring the theme of family through notions of intimacy, vulnerability, interaction in shared space. She has been bringing others, intimates from her own family as well as strangers, directly into the creation process for several years. This creates profound and challenging experiences, in that these explorations use the body in constant negotiation with the uncontrollability of everyday life. In this frame, the complexities of family reveal themselves slowly as the balance of love and tension emerge, outside of sentimental or romantic notions.
