Like her identities, Natalie Fontalvo’s artistic practice is hybrid. In theater and film, she seeks poetry; in literature, she explores the stage, screen, and movement. In 2023–24, she was supported by Spira Films for the writing of Le cri de l’aigrette and became co-artistic director of Spoken Word Québec, while being a finalist for the Capitale-Nationale Emerging Artist Award. In media arts, she directed the experimental video mais l’horizon (Théâtre Périscope, 2022) and co-directed the experimental short film Despierta (FCVQ 2022, Festival Al Este 2022, Festiverd 2023) and the literary music video Insonnia (FIL 2021). She participated in the Quebec stop of Kinomada 2021, directing the short film Abscissiles, and co-directed/co-produced the upcoming feature-length documentary Au pire ça sera ça (release 2024). In theater, she co-authored and performed Titre(s) de travail (Théâtre Périscope, 2022, finalist for “Best Text” at Prix de la Critique), co-created and performed in On sentait déjà la dynamite (Théâtre Premier Acte, 2022, finalist for theater awards for video design), and co-created and performed .ES - chapitre 1 - SOI, finalist for CALQ’s Emerging Work Award 2020–21. Her texts appear in the collective works Épidermes (Somme Toute, 2021), Cosmogonie des corps (Éditions de l’écume, 2021), Il y a des joies dont on ignore l’existence (Diverses syllabes, 2022), and Cinq éclats de siècles au féminin (Somme Toute, 2023).
