Adam Mbowe (she/they) is an emerging Gambian-American-Canadian filmmaker based in Atlanta and Montreal. Holding a Master’s in Film Arts from Concordia University, her work uses a multimedia approach weaving themes of oppression and intersectionality, focusing on everyday life and environments. Previous works include Halves and Doubles (2022) and 8 Times (2024). Her work has been supported by public arts councils, including Calgary Arts Development Fund, Canada Council for the Arts (CCA), and Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ), and presented at festivals such as DOXA, Images Festival, Festival Filministes, and Kingston Canadian Film Festival. In 2023, she participated in the RIDM Doc Lab. She is currently in pre-production on the short film Brown Sugar, exploring the role of reality TV in Black women’s romantic experiences, and developing her first feature documentary, Smiling Coast, examining the tourism industry in The Gambia.
