Improvisation and Metamorphosis

Artist and musician Erika Angell, originally from Orust, Sweden, explores the voice as a living, evolving instrument, shaped by improvisation, landscape, and constant transformation. Based in Montréal for over a decade, her practice is guided by movement, intuition, and deep listening.

At the PHI North residency, she continued this exploration, immersing herself in an environment that deepened her connection to nature, metamorphosis, and the ever-unfolding creative process.

ABOUT ERIKA ANGELL

The Montréal-based Swedish vocalist and composer Erika Angell defies categorization. Across sixteen independently produced albums and innumerable collaborations, Angell has been a poetic and audacious force in genre-defying music. Her voice has been described as “a guiding presence” (Exclaim) that “splits the difference between the divine and demonic, skillfully unhinged” (Under The Radar) and “sits alongside the greatest indie female artists who are not afraid of anything” (Le Devoir).
